CLEARWATER, FL, USA, December 12, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Center for Cyber Safety and Education and RBR-Technologies announce they are partnering in a series of school takeovers to provide cyber safety education near RBR’s office in Odenton, Maryland. To reach children as early in school as possible, RBR is donating the Center’s Garfield Cyber Safety Education materials to local elementary schools.

In its first “cyber safety school takeover,” RBR will provide teachers at Lake Shore Elementary in Pasadena, Maryland all the materials they need to conduct cyber safety lessons for the school’s 330 students. To kick off the program, RBR cybersecurity experts are planning to present the lessons to parents of Lake Shore students at an upcoming Parent-Teacher Association meeting.

Garfield’s Cyber Safety Adventures are provided by legendary cartoonist Jim Davis and the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. Each lesson includes a cartoon, comic book, poster, trading cards, and stickers showing Garfield and friends tackling a different cyber safety issue, including privacy, the dangers of posting online, online etiquette, cyberbullying, and more.

Bryan Harte, RBR’s COO, is leading the school takeovers. As a certified cyber security expert, he has witnessed firsthand the lack of cyber safety education occurring in schools. He believes the security community has not only an opportunity but a responsibility to bring cyber safety education to the children in the broader community. “It’s part of our corporate mission to give back to the community we work in,” he said. “School takeovers allow us to live our commitment to social responsibility and strengthen the security consciousness of our community at the same time.”

In addition, RBR is offering an annual digital subscription to the Garfield lessons as an employee benefit. Harte explains, “We want to give back to our own work community and to thank our staff for their volunteer work on this program, which will surely benefit their own children.”

Patrick Craven, Center director, praised Harte’s efforts, saying, “We applaud Bryan’s leadership and vision. It didn’t take his fellow RBR executives long to see the value we can bring working together. Thanks to RBR-Technologies and Bryan, the students at Lake Shore Elementary now have access to engaging tools that will help them learn how to be safe and secure online.”

Safe and Secure Online offers online safety education materials for children, parents, educators, and senior citizens. The children’s materials feature Garfield and friends in cartoons and comic books tackling different cyber safety issues, including privacy, the dangers of posting online, online etiquette, cyberbullying, and more.
