Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has shared a behind-the-scenes story about a close call on set that led to filming being abruptly halted.

Jack, who has been a prominent fixture on the cobbles since he was just 12 years old, has seen his character David Platt evolve from child to man over his two-and-a-half decades on the show.

As David Platt, he works at his grandmother Audrey's hair salon, a location that has had its fair share of drama on the show down the years.

However, one incident that didn't make it to air was recently recounted by Jack on his On The Sofa podcast. He described how filming had to be stopped due to a near-miss at the fictional salon.

During what should have been a routine scene, he revealed that Kate Ford, who plays Tracy Barlow, narrowly avoided a hairdressing mishap at the hands of Samia Longchambon, who portrays Maria Connor.

Recalling the close shave, he said: "Samia nearly cut Kate Ford's fringe off, she got her full fringe in her fingers, and she went like that (gestures a chopping motion) and she almost went down (with the scissors)."

But just as Samia was about to make the cut, Jack remembered how Kate urgently shouted and stopped the cameras, exclaiming: "Samia! Samia! Wait! Wait! What are you doing?" leaving a bewildered Samia to respond with "what?" and Kate to clarify: "You were about to cut my f****ng hair off."

Realising her mistake, Samia quickly apologised profusely, saying: "Oh my god I was. I'm so sorry."

Meanwhile, Jack recently made his comeback to Coronation Street after an unexpected hiatus away from the soap.

Having been announced as a contestant on ITV's Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, he outlasted other stars such as Jojo Siwa and Chris Hughes, ultimately triumphing over Danny Beard in last month's final to take home the title.

Prior to his stint on reality TV, Jack was at the centre of intense drama on the Street, with viewers gripped by a plot that saw David attempting to orchestrate his own demise by hiring a hitman, leading to harrowing scenes that landed him in hospital.

The latest episode of Coronation Street will tonight (May 9) at 8 pm on ITV.
