Woman injured in Glasgow home where young boxer found murdered
It has emerged a woman was also injured at the scene on Caldwell Avenue in Knightswood.
A woman was left injured in the same incident where a young boxer was stabbed to death at a house in Glasgow.
Josh Taplin, 28, was found at the property on Caldwell Avenue in the Knightswood area on Monday afternoon, in what is believed to be a targeted attack.
Police raced to the address after receiving a report of concern for a person at 3.35pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A murder investigation is underway, but it has now emerged that a 41-year-old woman was also caught up in the horror. Police confirmed she was found with injuries at the same address and was taken to hospital, but was later discharged following treatment.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 41-year-old woman was found with injuries in the Caldwell Avenue area of Glasgow and was taken to hospital. She was later released following treatment."
Cops are continuing with their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the murder. Forensic officers were seen at the scene on Wednesday afternoon as the semi-detached home remained cordoned off.
Locals told the Record how one neighbour bravely attempted to save Josh before emergency services arrived.
One resident, who wished not to be named, said: "Our neighbour was alerted to Josh being injured and ran into the house to try to save him. He tried his best but by that point, it just wasn't possible. It was a traumatising ordeal for him.
"This area is normally pretty quiet and people tend to keep themselves to themselves.
Another neighbour told how they heard a woman screaming in the street after police arrived at the semi-detached property on Monday.
She said: "There were a lot of people coming and going at the house all the time. I wasn't sure who lived there with him. On Monday I heard a lot of sirens and a woman screaming. It's horrible to think that someone's life was taken away from them in our neighbourhood. My heart goes out to the boy's family."
Friends and family paid tribute to Josh on social media after hearing of the news on Tuesday night.
His big brother Gary Taplin wrote: “Ma baby brother man broken.”
His devastated girlfriend Toni Stewart added : “I love you so much Josh.”
Others hailed Josh, a boxer who represented Auchengeich Boxing Club, as "one of the good guys".
Kathleen Brady said: “Absolutely heartbreaking, couldn’t of happened to a nicer person.”
Mhairi Macleod said: “Fly high Josh. You will be sorely missed by us all.”
Sean Mullan said: "Canny believe it man, you were one of my best mates Josh. You were genuinely one in a million, rest easy brother taken far too soon."
A statement from Auchengeich reads: "We at Auchengeich Boxing are devastated at hearing the news of our boxer Josh Taplin."
Detectives have urged anyone who was in the area at the time of Josh's death, or those with CCTV footage, to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Josh at what is a very difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers. It is vital that we find answers for them and we are appealing for information as our enquiries continue.
“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything that could assist with our investigation then please get in touch, no matter how small that piece of information might be. In particular, I am asking people to check private CCTV footage and see if anything has been captured that could be important. Likewise, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam that could assist, please contact us.
“We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider public. Officers remain in the area and anyone with concerns can speak to them.”
Grieving pals have since raised nearly £20,000 for funeral costs.
Pal Stephen Kelly wrote on a GoFundMe page: "It's still early days from horrible news about Josh. I'm going to sort a whip-around of funds for the family for his funeral to take some pressure off them at a traumatising time.
"Hope everyone can do their bit and that we can do Josh boy proud and get him a send off he deserves. Gutted doesn't cut it."
