Hi, Team.

In this episode of The Amazing Runner’s World Show, Jeff and Aly confess their love for 5K races. We share what we love about the 5K as well as the most memorable 5K races we’ve run. We think it’s the perfect distance—most new runners target it for their first race, but you can also find one nearly every weekend of the year. That’s why Runner’s World has created our “Master the 5K” program, an exclusive training program that gives you all the tools you’ll need to run your first—or fastest—5K. Key to that is picking a training plan that’ll keep you on target to reach your goal. RW+ members can watch the full episode below.

In the previous episode of The Amazing Runner’s World Show, Jeff and Aly talked about the gels they’ve been using in training—Aly likes Gu Campfire S’mores and Chocolate Coconut. But sometimes even those don’t sit well and you just can’t face eating one more. So, that’s when gel alternatives come in handy. Some runners will carry candy, dates, or even grab sliced fruit from strangers cheering along a race course. We talked about what we use. Tell us, what alternatives do you like? Jeff Dengate
Runner-in-Chief

Jeff is Runner-in-Chief for Runner’s World and the director of product testing. He has tested and reviewed running shoes, GPS watches, headphones, apparel, and more for nearly two decades. He regularly tests more than 100 pairs of shoes each year, and once had a 257-day streak running in different models. Jeff can usually be found on the roads, racing anything from the mile to a marathon, but he also enjoys racing up mountains and on snowshoes. When he’s not running, you’ll probably find him hanging from a ladder making repairs and renovations to his house (he’s also director of product testing for Popular Mechanics).
