City of Emporia to conduct citywide Low-to-Moderate Income survey
EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - The City of Emporia will collaborate with Governmental Assistance Services (GAS) to conduct a citywide random sample Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) survey.
The survey will determine the city’s eligibility for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Kansas Department of Commerce. These funds can provide up to $800,000 in grant funding for critical city improvement projects.
Emporia must demonstrate that at least 51.1% of its residents meet LMI thresholds, as determined by U.S. Census tract data, to qualify for these funds.
To achieve this, GAS will begin canvassing the community on March 31, conducting brief, confidential surveys with randomly selected households.
During the survey process, GAS staff members will visit homes across Emporia, asking just a few general questions to determine:
- The number of persons living in the household
- The combined annual income of those individuals
Each survey takes less than one minute to complete, and participation is critical to helping the city secure funding for infrastructure and community improvements. Residents can recognize GAS staff by their official City contractor badge.
The City of Emporia encourages all randomly selected residents to cooperate with survey staff and assist in this important process. The results of the survey will directly impact Emporia’s ability to access CDBG funding, which has been instrumental in improving public infrastructure, housing, and essential community services across Kansas.
