Aurora residents spend an average 28.6 minutes commuting to work, placing the city fourth on a list of Illinois towns in which people spend the least amount of time getting to and from their jobs.
The housing market website HomeArea came up with the ranking based on 2016 data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Aurora ranked behind Champaign, Springfield and Evanston, all four of which were unranked in last year’s survey, HomeArea said.
According to HomeArea, the statewide average travel time to work is 28.9 minutes. Champaign residents had the fastest commute, at an average 16.2 minutes.
HomeArea’s main rankings only evaluated Illinois cities with more than 60,000 residents. According to other data compiled by HomeArea, residents in smaller towns in the Aurora area sometimes have longer commute times. It listed standard commute times in the area as 26 minutes for those in North Aurora, 28 minutes for Batavia residents, 31 minutes for Yorkville and 33 minutes for Oswego and Montgomery residents.
